Addiction in Paradise: Signs, Symptoms, and Help – What We need to Know as Counselors

November 22, 2013 – The Hawaii Counselors Association and Windward Community College Counseling Department will be offering a workshop addressing the issues of alcohol and drug addiction in our community. As service providers and in our personal lives, we have all been touched by this issue. Addiction impacts the family members and community. We will address identification, warning signs and symptoms, many ways addiction touches all of us, and how we can help as counselors. The panelists will be will present case studies and guide solution-oriented discussions for a variety of counseling settings – for family therapists, college counselors, school counselors, administrators and others in the helping profession. Panelists are: Dr. Suzanne Whitehead, Chief of Quality Assurance and training of the Hawaii Alcohol and Drug Division, Linda Rich, Executive Director of the Salvation Army Family Treatment Services, Angela Kennedy-Smith, Licensed Substance Abuse and Marriage and Family Therapist Counselor, andDr. Ardis Eschenberg, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at WCC
